Tony's Archery Page
I anticipate there being enough archery information so that it needs its own area of the web site.
Technology/Terminology:
I guess this is what people mean when they talk about archery terms. This has been the best diagram I've seen so far. All the best technology available in the mid 80's...

There are several problems with archery that are all rolled together into what is called the "Archer's Paradox". The long version is boring, and not entirely applicable anymore. The short form is that archers get there very own catch 22 where a bow only fits one archer, and an arrow only fits one bow.
Part 1: - The string doesn't come straight forward, so the arrow doesn't come straight forward. It's an unstable equilibrium of an inverted pendulum. Done wrong, you'll shoot yourself with your own arrow...
Part 2: - On all bows for 6000-7000 years, you couldn't aim directly at the target. The arrow would have to go through the bow handle. Instead you aimed off to the side and got arrows that would wobble just right so that they'd curve back to the center.
